For Bailong Elevator we go up in late afternoon, after the morning tour groups have cleared, and descend on foot through Golden Whip Stream. Same icons, none of the three-hour queues.

'Wulingyuan' is the UNESCO park with the Avatar sandstone pillars (Yuanjiajie, Tianzi Mountain) — this is what most people mean when they say 'Zhangjiajie'. 'Tianmen Mountain' is a separate peak right next to the city, famous for the Heaven's Gate arch and the 99-bend road. Zhangjiajie city is your base for both. My honest answer on days: 3 is the bare minimum (1 for Tianmen + 2 for Wulingyuan), 4–5 is what I recommend so you're not rushing, 6+ if you also want a Tujia village extension.
